Can you use alter-egos to achieve states of high performance? Todd Herman thinks you can, and his ideas seem to cross over with a lot of topics that have come up on Narratively Speaking as we follow this train of thought about story.
Adem Koci from Podcasta Non Grata, once again joins Harv to talk about his use of alter egos in his podcasting, what it means to be creative, and of course a little touch of MK-Ultra mind control conspiracy theory!
Join us – in Adam’s own words it’s a “good’un!”

Can you live as a brain in a jar?
Doug Wilson, author of “Kundalini Running“, joins me on the podcast to celebrate the final upload of his audiobook and to talk about the physical mechanisms of consciousness and whether or not one can exist without the other.
Like all my conversations with Doug, it’s a bit of a mind-bending discussion where no idea is off the table.

Do you believe in synchronicity?
Today I have a discussion with Alex Snarski, an old friend whom I hadn’t seen for 13 years but happened to bump into while shopping for audio cables at the HiFi store where he works.
We started talking and found we had both developed interests in consciousness, meditation and Ayahuasca over the 13 years we had been apart.
The rub? It was Alex’s last day at the store. If I had gone a day later, we would never have crossed paths.
Here’s Alex’s story of heartbreak, awakening and synchronicity.

It seems everyone I respect and listen to meditates. They say, Harvey, have you tried mindfulness and meditation? It changed my life, it’ll change yours too, just give it a try…
ALRIGHT! I feel like I’ve been just fine without it, but here’s your meditation episode you heathens!
Let see if there’s anything to this ancient practice…

It’s often tempting to assume that the worst part of trauma is the tangible, physical experience.
But the core element of any trauma that stays with the victim throughout his or her lifetime is the memory of the event, more than the physical scars inflicted.
It’s the story of the trauma that continues to affect human consciousness, long after the physical wounds have healed. So, is it really fair to diminish the effects of purely emotional trauma, or are these the issues that we need the most help with?

We all know about body language, but are there other ways our bodies betray our private internal world?
Humans are subject to a wide assortment of non-verbal communications, and they are going on all the time, even when we’d rather keep the things they express to ourselves. Are these “tells” subconscious, or is it just more evidence that humans are storytelling machines?

Adem Koci is host of the Podasta Non Grata podcast, which got my attention when he did an entire episode in the style of an elaborate old fashioned “radio hour” programme, performing the entire show in the character of an elderly gentleman called Gerald Twint.
In this episode, I speak to Adem about why we tell stories as characters, how they can function as shields against criticism, and whether it’s possible to create so many characters, you lose track of yourself in the process.
You can find Adem’s amazing podcast at: https://www.spreaker.com/show/podcasta-non-grata_1

Doug Wilson is an international marathon runner, Kundalini Yoga practitioner, brain tumour survivor, and now author of the book “Kundalini Running”.
He has overcome substance abuse and severe health issues to achieve feats of physical fitness that most of us can barely imagine.
Today, we welcome Doug to the podcast to share his incredible story.

Jay Ridley joins Harv in the studio to discuss music — why it attracts us, why we create it, how it affects the brain, and how it might just be linked to the collective consciousness.
Or not, we can’t really work it out either. But it’s an interesting conversation nevertheless!

Christmas can be a difficult time for many.
In this bonus episode we put our eggnog glasses down for a moment to reflect on the stories that lead such a supposedly joyous occasion to be a depressing nightmare for many.
